What is clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a series of exercises that focus on posture, core stability, control, flexibility and breathing to improve your function. This will help for daily activities as well as sporting activities to help you recover from injuries and prevent them, and to improve your performance.

You will be assessed to determine how your muscles are working and we will identify any weakness or over activity and why it is happening. This could be an old injury that has not fully recovered or due to a work posture. A bespoke programme of exercises will be taught to you. This can include a home exercise programme or involve regular 1:1 sessions to ensure that you do the movements correctly to maximise your progress.

We also have a Pilates Reformer. The Reformer may be used during your physiotherapy treatment session, and you can also book a session specifically to do Pilates on the reformer as a 1:1 guided exercise session. This is suitable for any level.

A Pilates Reformer is a versatile piece of exercise equipment designed to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and overall efficiency of movement. It consists of a sliding carriage attached to a series of springs which provide adjustable resistance to help support and challenge your body in a controlled manner.

Within a Physiotherapy clinic, the Reformer can be used to aid in rehabilitation, injury prevention, and functional movement training. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or looking to enhance mobility, the Reformer allows for low-impact, full-body exercises tailored to the aims and ability of the individual user.

Benefits include

  • Gentle on Joints: The Reformer provides smooth, controlled movement, reducing strain.
  • Improved Core & Postural Strength: The Reformer engages deep, stabilising muscles for better alignment.
  • Customisable Resistance: With configuration of resistance springs, the Reformer provides for gradual progress and safe rehabilitation.
  • Targeted Rehabilitation: The Reformer helps to re-train movement patterns for specific injuries or conditions.
